The SmileyBat! Daily

SmileyBat.com was founded in October of 2009 in response to a growing concern for our chiroptera (bat) friends.
Our goal is to provide access to free educational resources, encourage participation in bat conservation efforts, and promote positive bat imagery to counteract traditional negative stereotypes.
Why is this important, you ask? Well, for a lot of reasons. But the matter has become more pressing due to the emergence and spread of White Nose Syndrome. How bad is it? It has killed more than a million North American bats and is rapidly spreading. It’s so bad, they have begun calling the now frequent updates to the map tracking the disease GRRs – Grim Reaper Reports. :(
Here is the latest map, updated as of June 1, 2011. Sadly, this includes an update that confirms a cave in Québec with 9,000 bats inside. Around 100 are confirmed dead. The disease is spreading rapidly through Canada… :(
